In the spirit of transformation, we would like to honor the following organizations and individuals as heros, leaders, and advocates in the field of supportive housing.

HERO AWARD

Hollywood Community Housing Corporation

Detiva Whitaker, IHSS

Yvonne Felix, IHSS

The Housing Works’ HERO AWARD goes to individuals who have made significant, genuinely “heroic” contributions of time, skill, and talent directly assisting our homeless participants. Their gift of service makes a tangible difference in improving the quality of our folks’ health and mental health… leading them to greater independence and taking maximum control of their own lives. We are proud to present this years’ hero award to Hollywood Community Housing Corporation, and IHSS workers Yvonne Felix and Detiva Whitaker.

TOM McGUINESS COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD

SYSTEM CHANGER: Andy Kerr

The Tom McGuiness Community Leadership Award is presented each year to individuals or groups that embody the spirit of community and respect for each person as we do whatever it takes for as long as it takes to fulfill our mission to create housing options for people with limited resources. Tom is a founding board member of Housing Works; the extraordinary example of his spirit is memorialized in this award.

TRUTH TELLER AWARD

Val Zavala

The Truth-Teller award recognizes the contribution of journalists and media organizations who bring the injustices ofdeep poverty to light. It recognizes the power of storytelling in shaping public perceptions about homelessness, and the importance of news reporting in holding our public, private and nonprofit institutions accountable to solve this crisis. Truth-Tellers bring us closer to the real answers that will bring our neighbors on the streets into safe and affordable housing.
